Towards the end of 2014 the annual "Wall 2 Wall" competition was held by Leichhardt Coucil. The competition involves the selection of three artists designs for three specific walls. Out of the many entries, little to our surprise, the mighty Peque was chosen to paint one of the locations. Peque drafted a mural to fit perfectly on the very long, short wall, and pulled it off like nothing else.
The Wall2Wall Mural Competition gives artists the opportunity to showcase their skills and style, in high profile locations. A number of murals in the Leichhardt area are already in place as a result of the competition in previous years, which have received great community support and feedback. The sites chosen are bold and public, and all types of artists are encouraged to enter the competition, as individuals, or crews. Both street artists and graffiti artists have been chosen to complete walls, with great prize money on offer.
The cost of painting the murals is covered by Leichhardt Council, and the finalised murals are given prize money based on the result. First prize receives a sweet $4000, 2nd place receives $2000, and 3rd place, $1000. It's great to see Leichhardt council stepping up to the plate and encouraging the talent held by our local artists. The competition will no doubt run again next year, and we would encourage you enter!
